A professional and personal respite from the New York City, this Miami Spanish bungalow was updated to provide a luxury experience, while still preserving the historic appeal. Original mosaic tiles and an exposed black stained roof were preserved and enhanced with a design that brought in a sultry, yet masculine, style home. The furnishings focus on Italian, American and Brazilian mid-century pieces, combined with classic beach house elements such as sisal rugs, striped fabrics, and grasscloth wallpaper. An eclectic mix of vintage and contemporary lighting and art add the final layer.
The layout was modified to provide 2 primary bedroom suites plus an additional guest room and bathroom. The original stone floors were honed for a more subtle appeal and the kitchen was enclosed through the use of a threshold and updated with a new stone backsplash, plumbing fittings and open shelving. The new bathrooms leverage the original material palette of nero marquina, walnut, and chrome to provide continuity with a contemporary nod.
